About Janet
the JANET behind the Jungle
I have always been an animal lover. As a kid, I dreamed of one day becoming a veterinarian, but talked myself out of it and went the business route instead. After 13 years working of working with people doing Human Resources, I decided I needed to follow my truest calling- helping animals.
My passion for strays was ignited back in 2019 when I was eagerly looking for a dog to add to my FUREVER family. Shelter application after shelter application, nothing prevailed!
That November we took a trip to Puerto Rico as we did every year to see our family- it was then that I realized the homeless animal situation had exploded! It was absolutely devastating. And on the eve of Thanksgiving I met Oberon Michael...he was the sweetest alley dog covered in fleas and ticks I had ever seen. I knew I could not leave him there and had to do something to help! That morning, we took Oberon to the vet to get him the help he needed- ticks began falling off of him right away. When we got home, I picked off more than 100 ticks off every part of his little body one by one.
I hadn't know it at the time but JANETS JUNGLE WAS BORN!
It wasn't until after moving to Austin that I found the spark I needed to start this journey on an official level! The stray dog situation here was just as bad as I had seen in Puerto Rico those years ago... and the strays made it easy. THEY KEPT SHOWING UP AT MY DOORSTEP! There was no way I would turn my back on them. So in May of 2023 we filed to become a legitimate 501(c)3 non profit animal rescue and were able to rehome over 40 dogs in just a few short months!!
